A man remains in a critical condition after falling onto the tracks of a central London Underground station last night.

The man, whose identity is unknown, is said to have had a "medical episode" before falling and being struck by a train, say police.

He is believed to have suffered severe leg injuries and was taken to a major trauma centre by the London Ambulance Service.

The British Transport Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

"We're supporting the man's family at this time," said a BTP spokesman said:

Oxford Circus station was evacuated at around 5.30pm during the evening rush hour on Wednesday as emergency services rushed to the scene.

The Victoria line was suspended temporarily between Victoria and Seven Sisters causing severe delays across the whole line into the evening.

Retired England cricketer Ebony Rainford-Brent said she had seen the man fall and described him as being in his mid-to-late 20s.
