Oxfordshire set for heatwave and highest temperatures of the year

A heatwave is set to hit Oxfordshire this week, forecasters have said.

Hotter, more humid weather is forecast with temperatures reaching the mid-20s and potential heatwaves across some areas in central and southern England.

On Monday, temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 28C in the south and southeast of the country.

Today will start cloudy before it turns brighter and warmer by the afternoon.

In Oxfordshire the Met Office is predicting a mostly cloudy day tomorrow with a few occasional glimpses of sunshine breaking through, particularly in the second half of the day.

But conditions will be significantly warmer with a maximum temperature of 25C.

Sunny and very warm or hot conditions continue on Tuesday when the temperature will hit 26C. A few cloudier intervals may develop but very briefly in the afternoon.

And it's another hot day on Wednesday and continuing similarly on Thursday when the Met Office is forecasting a maximum temperature of 26C on both days.

Met Office chief forecaster, Neil Armstrong, said: “Some central and southern areas are likely to see temperatures approaching the values needed for heatwave conditions.

“Heatwave conditions need to remain in situ for three consecutive days, and by the middle of next week it is possible that some parts of the UK could be reaching heatwave thresholds.

“However, whether or not everyone experiences heatwave thresholds, the majority of the UK will experience the finest conditions and highest temperatures so far this year.”
