A person has died on railway tracks in South London. National Rail reported this morning (Wednesday, April 24) that emergency services were dealing with an incident between Kingston and Teddington stations after an individual was 'struck by a train'.

This led to lines being closed and disruption on the railway network during rush hour. Officials said trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised, including services from London Waterloo station.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police (BTP) told MyLondon: "British Transport Police received a report shortly after 5am today (April 24) to a casualty on the tracks near Teddington station.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

All lines were cleared following the incident before 8am. But disruption was expected to last until 10am. Services were cancelled on the following lines:

  • London Waterloo to Teddington via Richmond services will be cancelled

  • London Waterloo to Strawberry Hill via Kingston services will be cancelled

  • London Waterloo to Shepperton services will be cancelled

National Rail said before the person's death was confirmed by police: "We have received reports that a person has been struck by a train between Wimbledon and Teddington. Response teams are working with the emergency services to assist with the incident.

"In order to allow emergency services access to the railway all power to the track will need to be switched off in the affected area."
