Thieves crashed a stolen caravan into a telegraph pole before fleeing the scene in Yorkshire.

The crash happened at 11pm on Friday, May 3, near Stokesley, North Yorkshire. The thieves used a black BMW 3-series with false plates to tow the Swift Continental caravan.

The vehicle, with the fake number plate YG56 ZLK, was used to hitch the caravan from a field in Ingleby Greenhow before being driven through Great Broughton and along the B1257 towards Stokesley. Then they crashed.

The road had to be closed for a short amount of time so the car and caravan, which were extensively damaged, could be recovered. North Yorkshire Police has launched an investigation over the theft of the caravan and a number of motoring offences.

The force is appealing for the public’s help, particularly anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage from the route between Ingleby Greenhow and Stokesley between 11pm and midnight on Friday (May 3).
