Peruvian Airlines Plane Catches Fire on Landing at Jauja Airport

A Peruvian Airlines plane caught fire upon landing at the Francisco Carle Airport in the central Peruvian town of Jauja on Tuesday, March 28.

The Boeing 737-300 caught fire after swerving off the runway at the end of the Lima-Jauja flight, Peruvian broadcaster RPP reported. Peruvian Airlines cancelled flights to the Andean city following the fire.

Interior Minister Carlos Basombrio said the fire was likely caused by friction between the jet’s wing and the runway, Reuters reported. The 141 passengers and crew were safely evacuated from the plane. Credit: Facebook/Juan Vasquez via Storyful
