This is the first picture of the man who was mauled to death by his dog in front of a BBC documentary crew.

Mario Perivoitos, 41, a computer expert, died after he was bitten on his neck by his Staffordshire bull terrier, Major.

Friends today said he was a “really nice guy” who would fix people’s computers in the area he lived in Wood Green.

Angela Constantinou, 35, said: “He was a good guy. I had known him since we were children, he taught me to ride a bike.

"Major seemed such a nice dog. He told me he put his dog first.

"They called round a few weeks ago. He had two master’s degrees, one in philosophy.

"He was brilliant at computers and would fix everyone’s.

"He loved study and I don’t think he ever worked.”

She said her “unbelievably clever” friend had “sadly lost his way completely” after the death of his father in 2007 and became a heavy user of drugs.

He struggled after his mother went into a care home a year ago.

Neighbours said the family home, where Mr Perivoitos lived alone, had been overrun “by drug users who took advantage of him”.

Mr Perivoitos was attacked at home on March 20 at 10.30pm. The BBC said a film crew were present — but not filming — and called an ambulance.

Neighbours believed the film was about drug use, but the BBC did not confirm this.

Paramedics and police treated Mr Perivoitos in the hallway of the flats but he died in hospital two hours later.

A post-mortem examination said the cause of death was hypovolemic shock and damage to the airway consistent with a dog bite.
