In pictures: North Korea carries out massive military test in show of might

North Korea has conducted what it has called its largest ever combined live-fire drill in an incredible display of power.

Hundreds of tanks massed on the coast for the exercise, which involved the firing of more than 300 large-calibre artillery pieces and included submarine torpedo-attacks on mock enemy warships.

The secretive state’s official media reported that leader Kim Jong-Un personally observed the show of might.

Tensions have been simmering in the region as the relationship between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump deteriorates.

The latest military exercise, celebrating the the anniversary of the founding of the North Korean army, is a stark reminder of the damage North Korea could inflict on neighbouring South Korea.

It had been suggested that Kim Jong-un would use the occasion to carry out the country’s sixth nuclear test.
