Piers Morgan celebrates leaving Good Morning Britain until September: 'Last day syndrome, little big de-mob happy'

Piers Morgan celebrated his final Good Morning Britain show before his summer break as he bid farewell to viewers for over six weeks.

The controversial broadcaster is a regular fixture on the ITV breakfast show, regularly keeping viewers entertained (and sometimes infuriated) with his opinions.

But we may be able to get through to the end of Love Island season without Morgan’s catty comments on the contestants as he announced he is heading off on his summer holidays until September.

Opening Wednesday’s show, Morgan said: “Last day syndrome, little big de-mob happy.

“Boarding a plan, whoosh…out of the country!”

Showbiz reporter Richard Arnold joked that the break would give him some “air time over the summer” while Charlotte Hawkins whooped and cheered mockingly.

Morgan then joked that he and co-star Susanna Reid would be “off to meet their fans” before confirming that he is actually off to America.

He said: "It's sad news. You've got just hours of us left before Susanna and I go off in our camper van on our tour of the British Isles to go and meet our fans.

“No of course we're not, I'm going to Hollywood... Susanna will be around, she'll be in the Croydon area.”

The 53-year-old will return to his seat on the flagship show in September, a move which has been met with a mixed reception from fans.

While tweets flooded in for the broadcaster saying that they would “miss waking up to him”, other people were “glad they could watch GMB again”.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
