Piers Morgan has hit back at Donald Trump’s claim that a promo for their interview was doctored, saying it was “as rigged as the 2020 election”.

The presenter is launching his new show – which is called Piers Morgan Uncensored – this month with a chat with the former US President, and it has been billed as “the most explosive interview of the year”.

A teaser clip appeared to show Trump storming off after a conversation about him losing the 2020 election – but the politician’s camp has refuted this, with an audio recording apparently indicating that the interview ended in a much friendlier fashion.

Morgan, 57, has now addressed the situation in a post on Twitter.

“My statement to all news organisations wanting my response to President Trump claiming ‘RIGGED PROMO!!’: it was as rigged as the 2020 Election,” he posted.

He has also suggested that people will have to watch the interview to see what happens.

The TV star was also supposed to be interviewing Caitlyn Jenner on his new show, which comes more than a year after he stepped down from Good Morning Britain following the Meghan Markle row.

However, after the Trump promo was shared on social media, the former Keeping Up With The Kardashians star cancelled her appearance on the programme.

Sharing a tweet from a Trump spokesperson about it, she wrote on Twitter: “’This is a pathetic attempt to use President Trump as a way to revive the career of a failed television host’ @TayFromCA…couldn’t agree more.

“@piersmorgan I have just had my management cancel my appearance with you for this Wednesday because of your repulsive misconduct today.”

The presenter responded: “Hi Caitlyn, I thought you hated cancel culture?"

He went on: "I did a 75-minute interview with President Trump, why don’t you actually watch it before deciding how I behaved?”

Morgan’s new show is on global channel talkTV from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

The star has previously suggested he wants it to help cancel cancel culture.
