Piers Morgan SAVAGES UK Eurovision act Michael Rice for coming last: ‘It wasn’t because of Brexit!’

Piers Morgan ripped into the UK’s Eurovision act Michael Rice for coming last in the annual singing competition.

Rice picked up just 16 points with his performance of track Bigger Than Us on Saturday night, pushing the UK into the bottom place.

The Good Morning Britain presenter launched into a savage tirade against the singer, mocking him for “flying the flag for Britain.”

Speaking on the breakfast show, Morgan said: “The good news is it wasn’t because of what’s his name- Michael Rice - it was nothing to do with the fact that it was terrible song.

“The lad came last. What about having a better song?”

Whilst his regular co-host Susanna Reid laughed awkwardly at the remarks, fellow host Charlotte Hawkins chimed in protesting that a better song wouldn’t have helped because “no one votes for us anyway”.

An unimpressed Morgan hit out: “This is where we’ve got to where everybody here is like, ‘Oh he did so well he couldn’t have done any better, it was because of Brexit’. No it was a terrible song! ‘But he did so well’- no he didn’t, we came last!”

Continuing his rant the journalist suggested that Rice would “not have got past the first round of Britain’s Got Talent.”

The comments come hours after Rice thanked fans for all their support, adding that he was “just so proud” of the performance despite taking the losing spot.

In a Twitter statement, Rice wrote: “Just want to say thank you for all the amazing messages of support! Me and my team have smashed this whole entire journey and I'm just so proud!!
