Piers Morgan throws support behind Lisa Armstrong as he slams Ant McPartlin for 'hurtful' interview

Piers Morgan has voiced his support for Lisa Armstrong, after her ex-husband Ant McPartlin credited his new partner Anne-Marie Corbett with helping him through recent difficulties.

In a new interview with the Sun, McPartlin described Corbett as “the fundamental reason” for his recovery and called her his “rock.”

He also claimed that he hadn’t been in contact with his ex-wife “for a while,” revealing that they “don’t speak.”

Morgan, who is a friend of Armstrong’s, took McPartlin to task for his remarks on Good Morning Britain, telling his co-presenters that he believed the make-up artist would be “pretty hurt” by the comments.

“I think that there’s somebody else involved in all this, who is Lisa, who I know well, who I’d imagine is pretty hurt by it,” he said, before questioning McPartlin’s claim that he was “in the best place [he’s] been in my [his] life.”

“I always find it funny when people say ‘I’ve never been happier,’ when they’ve already been married for 20 years, it’s a little bit like, would you say that?” he asked.

“I don’t think I would say something like that, because A, I don’t think it’s ever true. If you marry somebody you’re clearly incredibly happy at the time you get married aren’t you?”

“It’s sort of slightly hurtful isn’t it.”

He later responded to a Twitter follower who praised his support of Armstrong, adding: “Lisa is a lovely lady.”

Earlier today, the make-up artist liked a series of tweets criticising McPartlin’s remarks, including one which read: “Absolutely disgusted at Ant’s behaviour. My heart goes out to @lisaAmakeup the poor girl must be devastated.”

McPartlin was reunited with his presenting partner Declan Donnelly for the first round of Britain’s Got Talent auditions on Friday, after a 10 month break from the spotlight.

The 43-year-old stepped back from his presenting duties last year following a drink-driving charge and a stint in rehab.
