Plan to stop Domino's pizza delivery drivers parking on 'lovely' new pavement

A FORMER mayor said he is prepared to pay for bollards to stop pizza delivery lorries parking on new block paving outside a city pizza takeaway.

Cllr Alan Amos said delivery vans and customers have been parking on the new paving outside Domino's in St John's in Worcester - and he is prepared to use a Highways fund to put a stop to it once and for all.

Cllr Amos, a Conservative city and county councillor for Bedwardine, has asked for bollards to be put up to stop Domino’s delivery drivers, customers, and anybody else, from illegally parking on the new pavement.

He said: “The lovely new block pavement that I worked so hard to get put down all along St John’s High Street is being permanently damaged by people parking on the pavement, which causes an obstruction.

"Obstruction is a criminal offence enforced by the police who have already issued tickets.

"However, they cannot be there very often especially in the evening when this is occurring most so I have asked County Highways to put up some bollards to physically stop this selfish and lazy behaviour damaging the pavement.

"I have offered to pay for them out of my own Highways Fund to ensure it gets done as soon as possible.

"Domino’s is a welcome addition to St John’s shopping centre, and it is certainly NOT only their customers who are responsible, but we cannot have the pavement outside -  or anywhere else - used as a car park by anybody for any purpose.”

A spokesperson for Domino's said: “We pride ourselves on being a positive presence in the communities we serve. This is the first the store has heard of this issue, as they haven’t received any complaints to date. The store managers will continue to remind their drivers not to park on the block paving.”
