Plymouth Argyle player ratings from late goal defeat against Millwall

Here are the player ratings of Plymouth Live's Argyle reporter Chris Errington from the Pilgrims' 1-0 defeat by Millwall at The Den. You can give your marks too using our special widget further down this story.

Michael Cooper 7 - Could do nothing about the late looping header from Millwall captain Jake Cooper which clinched the win for the home side. The Argyle keeper displayed good handling when dealing with shots as well as crosses into his box and showed excellent anticipation when coming off his line to collect the ball before opposing players.

Ashley Phillips 7 - The teenage loan signing from Tottenham Hotspur was recalled to the starting line-up in preference to Julio Pleguezuelo and had a solid game before being taken off late on due to cramp.

Dan Scarr 7 - Milwall's strikers Tom Bradshaw and Zian Flemming posed little attacking threat, as was the case when Kevin Nisbet came on in the second half, so Scarr and his defensive colleagues deserve credit for the way they largely nullified them.

Lewis Gibson 7 - His wait for a first Argyle goal goes on. He had two chances to get it within a matter of moments when the score was still 0-0 in the second half. First he had a well-struck left-foot shot charged down by Jake Cooper and soon afterwards headed the ball just too high from a corner.

Bali Mumba 7 STAR MAN - There was no one player who stood out for the Pilgrims but Mumba gets the Star Man selection for a good defensive display at right-back against Duncan Watmore, who had been in excellent recent form for Millwall but was substituted midway through the second half after being kept very quiet.

Joe Edwards 6 - With Jordan Houghton ruled out by an overnight illness, and Adam Forshaw not risked after he tweaked his hamstring against Stoke City last time out, the Argyle captain was pressed into service in central midfield and played with his typical tenacity.

Adam Randell 6 - There was little to choose between the sides in central midfield as Randell and Joe Edwards were the equal of Casper de Gorre and George Saville.

Brendan Galloway 5 - With Mickel Miller injured, Joe Edwards in midfield and loan signing Lino Sousa not in the squad, it was Galloway who was chosen to play at left wing-back. Defensively he was solid, as always, but did not offer much going forward.

Mustapha Bundu 5 - Had Argyle's one shot on target during the game, when his fierce strike from a narrow angle rebounded off Millwall goalkeeper Matija Sarkic and out of play for a corner. Played in the right-sided 'number 10' position this time, as Morgan Whittaker moved across to the left.

Morgan Whittaker 5 - Another quiet game for Argyle's top scorer, whose recent dip in form has come at a bad time. Twice during this match he looked to have been played through on goal but on both occasions he was tackled by Plymouth-born Ryan Leonard before he could get a shot in.

Ben Waine 5 - No lack of effort from the New Zealand international but he made little impression against Millwall centre-backs Japhet Tanganga and Jake Cooper. Fired over the bar with one first half shot but that was about it in terms of scoring chances for Waine.

SUBSTITUTES

Ryan Hardie 5 - Dropped out of the starting line-up for the visit to The Den as Neil Dewsnip and Kevin Nancekivell opted for 'the fresh legs' of Ben Waine. Hardie was a 70th minute substitute for Waine and while stretching the Lions' defence at times it did not lead to any opportunities to get a goal.

Julio Pleguezuelo - Came off the bench in the 81st minute for the tiring Ashley Phillips to play on the right of central defence.

Alfie Devine - Argyle made a triple substitution in the 87th minute with Devine sent on for Joe Edwards in midfield.

Matty Sorinola - Replaced left wing-back Brendan Galloway for the closing stages.

Callum Wright - Could not provide any attacking threat in the little time he had on the pitch after being sent on for Mustapha Bundu.

Substitutes (not used): Conor Hazard, Adam Forshaw, Caleb Roberts, Freddie Issaka.
