Voters in Plymouth go to the polls in the May local elections for Plymouth City Council. Here are the candidates for the Plympton Erle ward - and why they say you should vote for them.

PLYMPTON ERLE

PETER ENDEAN - REFORM UK

I have lived in the parishes of Plympton St Maurice, Plymstock & Elburton since 1960. For the last 20 years in Station Road. A local Taxi operator (Blue Cab Co) & dabbled as an Elburton Historian. https://www.facebook.com/elburtonecho I have just retired and decided to enter the Snake Pit of LOCAL Politics. Its time for me to give back.

I WAS a Conservative until I realised how corrupt both Nationally and LOCALLY they were. SO Rather than stand as Independent I will stand with REFORM UK. (The old. Brexit party). Still able to maintain Independent operation to SERVE YOU. BUT with NO interference from the National Party. (no whip) Labour & Conservatives have desecrated Plymouth over the years, So, Its about time our council stood for the people NOT their own self serving Interests. ON MAY 2nd Give me your X on the ballot

SUZANNE GLENIE - CONSERVATIVES

I am happily married with 3 older children and 6 grandchildren and as a Plympton resident absolutely love and commend the community spirit.

A number of years spent in the care industry both locally and at Devon County level I want to focus my efforts on Plympton residents ensuring access to maximum care facilities available to us.

I will fight hard for the residents and businesses of Plympton Erle.

MICKEY JAKES - GREEN PARTY

I'll be standing as candidate for the Green Party in Plympton Erle to help grow a sustainable future. As Britain's Ocean City we need to be ensuring that we are protecting our water not only from sewerage, but also from litter that is left on our streets. I regularly do litter picks, but often the issue is caused by a lack of bins or overflowing bins, why aren't we fixing this issue? If elected, I would be working with Green councillors in Plympton Chaddlewood to improve our playparks and green spaces.

ANDREA LOVERIDGE - INDEPENDENT

Firstly, I would like to say I am honoured to be standing as an Independent candidate for Plympton Erle. Standing for elections is an opportunity to serve my community and contribute positively to its growth and well-being. I believe in representing the voices and concerns of the people. I am committed to build trust and collaborate among my constituents by voting for me , people are endorsing a candidate dedicated to their interest, with a vision for progress and genuine desire to make a difference in their lives.

I am passionate about Plympton as I have lived and worked in Plympton most of my life I have previously been in office for the last eight years serving in Plympton St Mary and Plympton Erle. I would love to continue following in my dad’s footstep. My farther dedicated 25 years to serving Plympton as a City Councillor and was a former Lord Mayor Alderman David James, who sadly passed away 15 months ago.

CHRISTOPHER ORAM - LIBERAL DEMOCRATS

Christopher works in the sales and customer service department at SSG Training Consultancy in Plympton and is currently retraining as a Psychotherapist at Devon Counselling College while on the board of trustees of Relate Counselling in Plymouth.

Christopher is passionate about mental health, the environment, fixing social care and tackling the housing crisis.

If elected in Plympton Erle, Christopher will be focusing on improving bus links in the area (bringing back a bus between Plymstock and Plympton), championing investment in local roads and pavements, safeguarding our green spaces and ensuring that Plympton is no longer ignored by City Council.

SEB SOPER - LABOUR

Seb Soper is the Labour and Co-operative candidate for Plympton Erle ward. He grew up in Plymouth and is married with two children in their 20s.

With a degree in Fine Art he has worked in theatre in a number of places for more than 30 years and is head of project development at the Theatre Royal’s Production and Learning Centre, TR2.

He is passionate about the importance of the creative industries in the city and the opportunities they offer, especially for young people. 'I’m really thrilled to have been selected to stand in Plympton Erle ward,” said Seb.

“My mum was a headteacher for many years in the ward and it's a place I know well and that I would be so proud to represent,” he said.

HELEN YEO - TUSC

I've lived in Plympton for 20 years and raised my family here. I’ve worked as a Project Lead supporting children and young people. One of the reasons I chose to stand in this election is to bring attention to the harm cuts have brought to much needed services and those who rely on them. I've had first hand experience of this and if elected would fight to reverse them. We can’t have people on ridiculously long waiting lists for vital services; we need to support them based on their needs now!

Our community is stronger when we pull together. If elected I would concentrate on getting the basics right - potholes, road and street signs and vegetation in particular. Additionally I would push for longer Library opening hours, road systems with better flow and safety and would have bus services brought back in house.

After 14 years of harsh cuts and failed privatisation we see services failing, bills soaring, including a maximum increase in Council Tax... again! It's time to say NO to this model where only corporations gain! REVERSE THE CUTS.
