Police Arrest Prison Guard Over Alleged Sexual Assault of Female Inmates

Police arrested a prison guard alleged to have sexually assaulted female inmates in a western Sydney jail.

The arrest took place at the man’s home in the north-western Sydney suburb of Kurrajong Heights about 9am on Wednesday, February 20, police said.

The man, 62, was taken to Windsor Police Station and will face Penrith court on Thursday, February 21.

He was suspended from the New South Wales Corrections service and charged with six offences that allegedly took place at the Dillwynia jail against two women between 2016 and 2017.

ABC Australia named the man as Wayne Astill. His Facebook profile is available here.

A woman who claimed to be a former prisoner commented on his Facebook page, saying “you was the best prison guard I EVER met”.

Astill’s Facebook activity indicated he was an alleged supporter of the Gypsy Jokers, which has been identified as an outlaw motorcycle gang. Credit: NSW Police Force via Storyful
