Police were called to the Swanpool Nature Reserve this afternoon after a man was seen holding a flick knife by members of the public.

Police were called at 12.05pm on Monday, July 1, following a report of a man acting suspiciously at Swanpool Nature Reserve in Falmouth.

Police say the man was seen in possession of a knife and walking in the reserve. They said he didn’t threaten anyone and no one was injured.

Police attended and carried out a search of the area but the man was not found.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called at 12.05pm today, Monday 1 July, following a report of a man acting suspiciously at Swanpool Nature Reserve in Falmouth.

“The man was seen in possession of a knife and walking in the reserve.

“No threats were made and no-one was injured.

“Officers attended and carried out an area search but the man was not located.

“Anyone with information can contact police online or by telephone on 101, quoting log number 511 of 1 July.”

Concerns were first raised by a resident on the Wainhomes Estate that surround the reserve.

Posting a picture on Facebook of a man in black walking away he said that he called the police after he saw: “This guy walking around the nature reserve with a flick knife out. Wandering around in no particular order and now up in the estate.”

He described him as scruffy looking with a black hoodie, “trackies”, short brown hair, “not many teeth by the looks of it, probably in his 30’s”.

“Scared the life out of me when I was on the new wooden path heading through the nature reserve and he’s turned around with a flick knife in my direction,” he said. “I tried to play it down and dismiss the fact I seen him with it. He quickly put it away and just started wandering around in all sorts of directions.”
