Police close road after suspect flees during routine stop


Police are searching for a suspect who refused to stop in a car, sparking a road closure. The driver made off when he was ordered to stop by officers in the Bartley Green area at around 10am today, Tuesday, June 25.

The man then left the vehicle near Alwold Road and ran off. Officers sealed off the road from the junction of Barnes Hill to Ludgate Road, while they conducted a search.

A number of unmarked and marked cars were sent to the scene and cordoned off the road to traffic and pedestrians. It was later reopened.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "A vehicle made off from our officers in the Bartley Green area of Birmingham just after 10am. The driver fled on foot after leaving the vehicle near to Alwold Road.

"Enquiries continue and anyone with information has been asked to get in touch, quoting log 1389 of June 25."

A witness said: "The road was closed by police from KFC to Ludstone road. There's police cars and a unmarked car. "There's police standing around. Cars and buses have had to turn around."
