British Transport Police have confirmed what happened after several police cars were called to Watford Junction.

Three Herts Police cars and a British Transport Police van were seen in the car park outside the station this morning, leading to speculation around why they had been called.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Watford Junction railway station at around 10.59am today (May 23) following reports of concern for welfare.

“Officers attended and a person was taken to a place of safety.”

Rail services through the station were not significantly disrupted while police responded to the report.

British Transport Police is the national special police force which responds to calls along Great Britain’s railways and at railway stations.

It is primarily funded by train operating companies.

Territorial police forces such as Herts Police are often called to assist with their operations where the stretch of railway involved, or the station, falls within their boundaries.
