Police investigate Snapchat video showing girl being attacked by pupils at Birmingham school

Police in Birmingham are investigating after a video which apparently shows a schoolgirl being attacked by a large group of pupils near a school.

Shocking footage shared widely on Snapchat shows the girl being pulled to the ground, beaten and verbally abused.

At the same time she is surrounded by a crowd of more than 20 other pupils near Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School in the Kingstanding area of Birmingham.

The incident is took place on Wednesday.

West Midlands Police were called to the incident on Kingstanding Road at around 3.40pm on Wednesday, amid reports of a large disorder and said an inquiry is in progress.

‘I saw this, pulled over and called the police. It was really bad,’ local resident Kelly Bradley told Birmingham Live.

She added that ‘a load of us tried to help’ but there were more than 20 children there’, making it difficult to intervene.

The video originated on Snapchat but has been shared thousands of times on Facebook.

It apparently shows two girls fighting when one of them is shoved to the ground, reports the Birmingham Live website.

The victim on the ground is then grabbed by the hair and kicked by other students.

The school has been made aware of the incident and was approached for comment, but had not provided one at the time of publication, said Birmingham Live.

‘We were called to Kingstanding Road, Kingstanding, shortly before 3.40pm to reports of a large disorder,’ said a West Midlands police spokesman.

After the post was posted on Snapchat, it was then widely shared on Facebook.

Among the comments under the video was one which said: ‘This is disgusting, I hope all the kid’s parents involved see how disgraceful their children are.’

Another, from a person called Leanne Cole wrote: ‘Utterly disgusting and disgraceful.’
