Police Officer Investigated for Racism Over 'In My Country' Remarks

A Metropolitan Police officer was put under investigation by Scotland Yard for alleged racism after telling a pro-Kurdish protester “you don’t tell me what to do in my country”.

Marcus Tyson told newspapers that he made the remark following an exchange between himself and a protester who allegedly told him to “get out of here”.

Video later emerged online of the incident, which took place during a march in support of the release of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan on August 14.

Speaking to The Times, Tyson said, “I would like to know upon what basis they regard my statement as being racist — it is purely a statement of fact that this is my country”.

Speaking to Storyful, editor of Telgraf London Aladdin Sinayic said that Tyson had been “very aggressive from the beginning of the demo”. The confrontation reportedly came about when an ambulance was trying to pass through the demo.

Sinayic told Storyful that “one of the organisers helped to open a space for the ambulance to pass…and was on the corner of the road. Than this police officer pulled her back from her arm severely hard and she was shocked and she did not understand why the police officer did that…when demonstrators saw what the police officer done, they started to criticise [his] action but he started to be very rude to everyone”.
