Police statement as person dies after being hit by train near Sheffield

A person has sadly died after being hit by a train near Chesterfield - causing all trains between Sheffield and Nottingham to stop.

British Transport Police were called to the tracks near Chesterfield railway station at 10.30am this morning (Wednesday, June 26), following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Police, paramedics and the fire service all attended the scene where the person was sadly pronounced dead.

Rail services from Sheffield are continuing to face delays following the tragic death. Northern Rail has warned passengers of ongoing disruption after trains between Sheffield and Nottingham and Sheffield and Derby were cancelled .

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just after 10.30am today (26 June) near Chesterfield railway station.

“Officers, paramedics and fire attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead. The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
