Police follow 'stolen' car before arresting wanted man behind the wheel

Police followed a 'stolen' car through Whitefield on Sunday afternoon (May 26) before arresting the wanted man who was behind the wheel.

Officers pursued the vehicle, which police said had a suspect inside who was 'wanted for very serious offences' and that intelligence led them to tracking down the stolen car.

Greater Manchester Police said the smashed up car was brought to a stop and that, despite the extensive damage, nobody involved had been injured.

The suspect was arrested for a haul of offences including on suspicion of aggravated burglary; driving without license and insurance; dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

He was also recalled to prison after being taken into custody, however police said that he would be 'dealt with' for the eight separate offences beforehand.

A post shared by GMP Bury North said: "Officers from the E relief response shift today got behind this vehicle which had a male onboard who was wanted for some very serious offences; it was located thanks some great local knowledge from the Whitefield neighbourhood team.

The driver has been arrested for the following offences; burglary, aggravated burglary, aggravated taking without the owner's consent, driving without a license, driving without insurance, dangerous driving, being unfit to drive (Drugs and Alcohol) and failing to stop for police.

"Thankfully, despite the damage to the stolen vehicle and other vehicles nobody suffered any injuries! He has also been recalled to prison and will be dealt with for these offences prior to that happening!"
