A popular Cardiff bar has announced that it will be closing temporarily and rebranding. Pennyroyal, which sits right in Cardiff city centre on High Street and has won many awards, is changing its name and having an internal refurbishment.

Posting to Instagram, Pennyroyal said they had "some news to announce" and that they would be closing the bar for a bit, they said: "We're going through a transition with the bar and want to update our brand, what we provide and of course refurbishing the bar. We are currently just getting ahead of the time as we're aiming to close in a month or so for an internal refurbishment (it really needs some TLC).

"We will be changing to just Penny 1. That's what our regulars call us & we love it... to round off we will still be "Pennyroyal" for the upcoming month or so, the teams not going anywhere, a new menu is inbound and we aim to keep providing Cardiff with great drinks and hospitality."

The refurbishment will see re-painting, levelling the floors, a new bar top, new panelling and new bar equipment. The bar will be closed in early June for up to two weeks.

Pennyroyal said: "The main aim is to keep the neighbourhood cocktail bar style whilst updating the interior to create a more comfortable experience for our guests. We will still be providing a range of custom cocktails, expanding our wine selection, including some Welsh products."

Pennyroyal is an award-winning cocktail bar and has been named among the 50 best cocktail bars in the UK. Franklin & Sons Top 50 Cocktail Bars awards has announced its list of the best drinking spots in 2024, as voted for its academy of experts - business leaders, influencers and drinks writers across the UK.
