Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may find themselves in a challenging situation due to an invitation from King Charles to join the Royal Family at their traditional summer retreat, Balmoral, according to a Royal expert.

The Royal Family typically spends their summer holidays at the Aberdeenshire estate.

King Charles is expected to invite Harry and Meghan to visit Balmoral this year, as it's customary for the reigning monarch to extend such invitations to family members during the holiday period.

Balmoral played a significant role in Harry's Royal upbringing, and it was there that he received the tragic news of his mother, Princess Diana's death following a car crash in Paris in August 1997. However, during her time as a working royal, Meghan only visited the Aberdeenshire estate once - in 2018 with the Queen, just months after she and Harry tied the knot.

Royal expert and author Tom Quinn suggests that an invitation to Balmoral could create a "difficult" situation for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. "If the invitation becomes a real invitation and it is almost certainly to do that - both Harry and Meghan will find themselves in a very difficult position," Quinn told the Mirror.

He further commented: "They are obsessed with their public image and will be aware that it will look really good if they swallow their pride and came back to the UK.", reports the Daily Record.

King Charles has reportedly extended an olive branch to Prince Harry and Meghan by 'hinting' at a Balmoral visit this summer.

Royal commentator Tom Quinn spoke exclusively to the Mirror, revealing that Charles is keen to mend fences within the Royal family, particularly between the Sussexes and the Cambridges.

Quinn disclosed: "According to people I've spoken to at Kensington Palace King Charles has hinted to Harry and Meghan that they should come to Balmoral in the summer to see if something can be done about the ongoing feud in the family.

"Charles knows that Harry and Meghan are much more likely to respond positively to an invitation after the shock of Harry's father's cancer diagnosis and Kate's cancer diagnosis. It's one of those situations where good might just come out of bad."

Ahead of Prince Harry's scheduled return to the UK next month, he is set to speak at the 10th anniversary special service of the Invictus Games at St. Paul's Cathedral in London on May 8.

It's reported that Prince Harry and Meghan may finally be ready to bury the hatchet with Prince William and Kate, as the fallout following the bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey continues to rumble on. Royal commentator Tom Bower believes the Sussexes may be ready to swallow their pride after the shock of the cancer announcements within the family.

"But Meghan still wants that apology from William and King Charles and Kate so it's going to be difficult for her to swallow her pride, but on the other hand she won't want to appear to be holding a grudge because that will lead to criticism and she really hates criticism. On the other hand, she knows she always has the children's needs to fall back on when she makes her apologies and says she can't come to Balmoral."

It is yet to be confirmed whether Meghan will join Harry on his journey or if he will travel solo, leaving Meghan in California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from Royal duties in 2020 and have since made Montecito, California their home, are not expected to make a full return.

Meghan is also thought to be hesitant about visiting the UK, while Harry has made several trips since their withdrawal from Royal duties four years ago.

Buckingham Palace has been approached for a comment on this matter.
