Prince Harry's five-word response to King Charles' snub as he lands in the UK

King Charles' packed schedule has dashed hopes of a meeting with his son, Prince Harry, this week. But the Duke's five-word response hints at ongoing optimism.

Prince Harry arrived in the UK earlier on Tuesday and was seen fulfilling duties for the Invictus Games. The celebration marking a decade of the project will be held in St Paul's Cathedral on Wednesday.

Last week, insider reports suggested that King Charles was eager to meet his son, provided his calendar permitted it. However, Harrys team have since confirmed that the meeting wont occur.

His spokesperson stated: "It, unfortunately, will not be possible due to His Majesty's full programme. The Duke of course is understanding of his father's diary of commitments and various other priorities."

Despite the setback, there's a glimmer of hope from Harry. The latter part of the statement indicated that the duke "hopes to see him [Charles] soon," suggesting he's still keen on reconnecting with his father, reports the Mirror.

The last occasion that the two were together followed Charles' cancer diagnosis announcement. Harry promptly returned to his homeland to visit his father.

He saw his dad for barely half an hour before Charles headed back to Sandringham for some rest, having commenced outpatient treatment for his illness.

Charles has recently been given the all-clear by his medical team to resume some public duties, following a period of working behind closed doors on state affairs - a situation that his nephew Peter Phillips noted left the King "frustrated".

Although Charles's schedule will "remain subject to doctors' advice" and he isn't expected to be fully operational over the summer, his doctors are "sufficiently pleased" with his recovery to allow him to return to official engagements. He began last week with a visit to University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre and a trip to the Royal Windsor Horse Show - one of the late Queen Elizabeth's favourite events.

Insiders told the Mirror that if the King's schedule permitted, Harry and Charles planned to meet while the Duke was in the UK. The source said: "Harry has kept in regular contact with his father on several occasions and made no secret of his desire to see him when he can. He has been especially concerned about him and hopes the King will be well and able to see him as planned."

The Duke of Sussex is visiting the UK alone, just a day after his son Archie's sixth birthday, and is reportedly set to attend the anniversary service marking 10 years of the Invictus Games at St Paul's Cathedral without any other senior royals.

Similarly, it is reported that Harry didn't make contact with his older brother, William, before his visit. "Their relationship remains extremely fractured. Harry has privately expressed a wish to sit down with his brother but now is not the time," shared a close source.

Later in the week, Harry plans to rendezvous with Meghan for their tour of Nigeria where they are set to engage with military personnel.

In the Invictus Games service at St Paul's, actor Damian Lewis will deliver a poem reading. Delegates from participant nations of the Invictus Games, consisting of members from the wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veteran community, will also partake.
