In a revealing insight, it emerged that the late Prince Philip had a rather unflattering nickname for ex-working Royal Meghan Markle according to one Royal expert who explained why.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away in 2021, was reportedly "wary" of the former Hollywood actress and noted parallels between her and Wallis Simpson; another American divorcee who married into the Windsors, according to the Mirror.

Whilst there have been prior suggestions of similarities between Markle and Simpson, it's been revealed that Prince Philip himself used to reference this openly through a private nickname for Meghan, which he never spoke directly to her.

Acclaimed Royal biographer, Ingrid Seward revealed the Duke's unique perspective, explaining his view of "similarities" drawn between Meghan and Wallis Simpson, the late Duchess of Windsor, with a particular nickname he ascribed to her.

Speaking on GB News, Seward divulged: "I think Prince Philip was very canny about people and he didn't always see the bad in them, he tried to see the good in them. I think he just couldn't get away from the fact [of the] similarities between Meghan and Harry and Edward and Mrs Simpson."

Adding further details, she said: "There are so many similarities which is why he used to call her The Duchess of Windsor, I mean not to her face. We used to call her DoW - the abbreviation for Duchess of Windsor."

In her revealing book, "My Mother and I," Seward disclosed that Prince Philip was "wary" of Meghan Markle, noting: "One of the few wary of succumbing to (Meghan's) charm offensive... was Prince Philip. From the moment he detected her apparent similarity to Wallis, he referred to her as DoW."

She further mentioned that the Duke of Edinburgh had tagged Meghan as 'disruptive' to the monarchy, while his late spouse, Queen Elizabeth II, remained hopeful, harbouring "high hopes" for the Duchess.

Since their high-profile departure from Royal duties in 2020, Meghan and Harry have settled in California with their children. Although Harry is set to return to the UK next month to mark a decade of the Invictus Games, it is believed Meghan will remain stateside due to safety worries and a desire to avoid 'drama' on British soil.

Meghan's visits to the UK have been sparse since stepping down, attending only significant events such as Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in 2022. Notably, she was absent from King Charles III's coronation last year, an event Harry attended solo.
