Pub Creates Roast Dinner Portrait Of Tim Peake To Welcome Him Home From Space

A British pub has created a ‘gastronaut’ portrait made entirely of traditional roast dinner ingredients to welcome Tim Peake home from space.

The British astronaut, who is due to return to Earth tomorrow (18 June), said that roast dinner is one of the things that he would miss most during his six-month stay on the International Space Station.

Commissioned by Hungry Horse pubs and put together by food artist Prudence Staite, the culinary creation contains a whopping 2.5 kg of roast potatoes along with 500g of carrots, 400g of garden peas, 3kg of cauliflower, 46 Yorkshire puddings, 2.5kg of meat and 1 litre of gravy.

Tipping the scales at 12kg, the four-foot portrait took 20 hours to build and sports the words ‘Welcome Home Tim’ spelled out in veg.

Tim’s local Hungry Horse pub, The Heron, has even offered the British astronaut free dinners for him and his family for life.

“We’re big fans of the traditional roast dinner, so after hearing it was also one of Tim’s all-time favourite meals, we wanted to commemorate his return to Earth with a gastronomical memento to celebrate his achievements,” said Emma Cupit, general manager at The Heron.
