In a rather alarming new sign of a generational divide, a quarter of millennials admit they would be happy having a sexual relationship with a robot.

Men are happier to take the plunge and make love the cold, lifeless body of a machine – with men three times more likely to admit to being robot-curious.

In a study conducted by Paris-based Havas, 27% of 18-34 year olds would form a relationship with a robot.

Last month, academics suggested that we would soon see the rise of ‘digisexuals’ – who will identify as machine-lovers, and will opt for relationships with machines over human beings.

‘There is no question that sexbots are coming. People will form an intense connection with their robot companions,’ said Dr Neil McArthur of the University of Manitoba.

It’s a bold theory but there might be something to it.

‘These robots will be tailor-made to meet people’s desires and will do things that human partners cannot or will not do.
