Quavo Partners With Vice President Kamala Harris and the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention for Inaugural Rocket Foundation Summit

Rapper Quavo has partnered with Vice President Kamala Harris and the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention for the inaugural Rocket Foundation Summit, taking place in Atlanta, GA on June 18.

The event is set to honor Quavo’s former Migos group member and nephew Takeoff, who was killed in 2022, on the late rapper’s 30th birthday, and pay homage to the countless victims of gun violence in an effort to make Quavo’s hometown of Atlanta a model for gun violence reduction.

During the summit, Quavo will sit down with Harris for a fireside chat to discuss the methods and approaches that must be taken to decrease gun violence and protect communities. The two last met in September to discuss gun control through Quavo and his family’s involvement in the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C. The next day, the White House launched the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, and its Deputy Director Greg Jackson is slated to moderate the fireside chat.

The summit will also feature two panels. The first will be led by Community Justice Action Fund, LIVE FREE and Cities United in a discussion about the gun violence crisis in the United States and how community violence intervention can help solve it. The second will be led by Youth Over Guns, Offenders Alumni Association and H.O.P.E. Hustlers and will focus on how supporting and investing in youth programs can reduce gun violence and improve community safety.

Beyond the panels, patrons can attend a lunchtime roundtable to connect with families of victims and survivors in a conversation about what actions can be taken to improve gun control. The day will conclude with local and state officials honoring Quavo’s philanthropic efforts and celebrating Takeoff’s life.

Quavo launched the Rocket Foundation in 2022 after Takeoff was shot and killed as an innocent bystander outside a Houston bowling alley, committing $2 million to invest in community violence intervention. In March, he announced the “SPARK Grants” program to award $10,000 to 10 Atlanta-focused organizations in assisting communities and promoting the foundation’s message, totaling $100,000 in grants.
