Rangers news latest as flop Cifuentes could be left in limbo amid Ronaldo move and Feyenoord lure too strong for Zeb

Rangers flop Jose Cifuentes' hopes of a permanent move to Cruzeiro are in doubt after legendary striker Ronaldo pulled the plug on his funding of the club.

Ecuadorian midfielder Cifuentes exited Rangers in February on loan to the Belo Horizonte outfit, who were owned and funded by Brazilian hero Ronaldo. Cifuentes' time in Glasgow was a disaster after only six league starts and he failed to live up to the hype surrounding his move from the MLS in the summer. His last league appearance against Dundee in December saw him receive a red card.

It took Cifuentes almost three months to finally start a game for his new club last week after his debut was delayed by red tape and Cruzeiro have an option to buy him when the loan deal expires at the end of the year. But that's in serious doubt now after Ronaldo pulled the plug on his investment in the club after criticism following a lack of investment after two relegations. New owner – Brazilian supermarket owner Pedro Figueiredo – revealed it would take him 10 years to pay off all of Cruzerio's debts.

Ronaldo said: "I know most fans are grateful to me and my team for putting Cruzeiro back on the national and international scene. My goal was reached. That was always the idea - to bring Cruzeiro back and, at the right time and then give it to the right person.”

Meanwhile, -Ibrox academy director Zeb Jacobs has insisted he couldn't turn down the chance to move to Feyenoord. Rangers lost Belgian-born Jacobs this week to the Dutch giants, where he was appointed their top youth chief and signed a three-year deal. Jacobs had a clause in his contract that meant he was allowed to leave without compensation and Jacobs admitted he's excited to move to Rotterdam after three years in Glasgow.

He said: "If a big club like Feyenoord signs you up, it is not only a compliment, but, also a wonderful opportunity. The Feyenoord Academy has an excellent track record and beautiful facilities.

"It is my task, together with all the coaches and other staff, to take the Academy - which has already produced many great talents - to the next level and be the link to the Feyenoord first team. It's a great challenge, which I am really looking forward to.”

Feyenoord development manager Jelle Goes added: "Zeb has built up a good reputation in a short time and has gained a lot of experience in the youth academies of various clubs.

"With his background and vision, we think he will fit well within Feyenoord Academy, so that we can continue to build on the path we have already taken successfully..”

Meanwhile, Ibrox strike legend Ally McCoist was put on the spot by talkSPORT breakfast show co-host Jeff Stelling as he was asked if he could ever imagine a scenario where he would cheer on rivals Celtic with Spurs in a position where they could do north London foes Arsenal a favour by beating Manchester City.

McCoist smiled: "Did you just ask me if I would cheer Celtic on? I don't know if I would cheer them on. I'd grudgingly accept the victory. But I don't know if I would secretly cheer them on. That's perhaps taking it to the extreme."
