The 21-year-old rapper Lil Peep has died, The Guardian reports. The Long Island-born (but LA-based) rapper's manager said he was taken to hospital following an overdose on Thursday. His official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Lil Peep, whose real name was Gustav Åhr, was best known for his emo rap style music including tracks like 'White Wine', and 'Benz Truck', both of which have garnered around 10 million views on YouTube.

The rapper regularly spoke about mental health and drug use in his music, interviews and on social media. Back in February, he tweeted that he was a "depressed drug addict and nearing [his] breaking point."

Åhr was posting on Instagram as recently as yesterday when he said in a video he had taken "six Xanax" but that he was good and "not sick."

As well as becoming an emerging force in the music industry, Åhr's eclectic style landed him modeling gigs for brands like Vlone - who he walked for in Paris Fashion Week - and editorials such as a recent V magazine shoot by Mario Testino. He was also regularly spotted in the front rows of fashion shows like Balmain, Haider Ackermann and Fendi.

Peep's friends from the music world, including Diplo and Post Malone, posted tributes on Twitter:
