H&M made a fashionable return to the Met Gala red carpet with a bevy of stars clad in custom looks that sparkled, from actresses Awkwafina and Hari Nef to supermodels Adwoa Aboah, Paloma Elsesser, and Quannah Chasinghorse. For the couture looks, the brand's in-house design team took inspiration from this year's Costume Institute exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the gala dress code, “The Garden of Time.” The theme inspired the design team to dig deep through the brand's archives and reawaken old-school silhouettes, drawing on the decadence and drama of bygone eras and interpreting them in a fresh, modern way.

Known for her star-turning roles in Barbie and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Hari Nef has made a name for herself by combining her movie star looks with her fresh, relatable humor. When she's not stealing scenes and delivering meme-worthy quips, Nef spends her time advocating for human rights. As one of the first trans models to sign with IMG, Nef has opened doors for the LGBTQ+ community both in fashion and film.

To see a household name brand like H&M fully embrace the star goes to show just how much progress has been made thanks to people like Nef's dedication to progressiveness. Describing her custom look, Nef says, "Since the night's dress code was the 'Garden of Time,' I knew I wanted to wear something that started a conversation between the present and past." The one-of-a-kind gown channeled old-school opulence with a form-fitting column gown in pale pink taffeta overlaid with translucent, mother-of-pearl paillettes and sequins.
