The Town Moor in Newcastle is all set to be a whirl of excitement for the next 10 days as Europe's largest travelling funfair plays out.

The Hoppings opened on Friday, on one of the best summer days to date, and brings 300-plus attractions for families to enjoy up to June 30. While the lay-out is smaller this year, given the problems of waterlogged ground on the Town Moor due to lengthy spells of rain, the fairground operator Crow Events says it has managed to include 90% of the usual mix on a smaller site.

Families planning their usual trip to the fair, which is here for its 142nd outing, will be keen to know how much it is likely to cost. Here are some of the prices of the food and drink on offer while below we've included a range of ride prices, from the high-octane, adrenaline-pumping thrillers to the easy riders for young children.

New for this year is a white-knuckle XXL aerial ride while the big wheel is bigger than ever before - ones for those with a good head for heights. Old favourite the horse carousel - the gallopers - is back but at the opposite end of the moor site. Crow Events says rides are priced individually and this year mostly range from £1.50 to £4 while there are a few specialist rides costing up to £10.
