A major road into Chelmsford city centre will be closed overnight each night for week due to resurfacing works. The works are scheduled as part of a series of highways improvements in Chelmsford.

Essex Highways said the closures on Springfield Road and Navigation Road will be implemented between 8pm and 6am from Monday (June 17) to June 21 and on June 24. The closures will affect Springfield Road in both directions at the point of the works.

It will also affect people wanting to use the Navigation Road junction of Springfield Road and Wharf Road. Appropriate diversions will be in place. Access will still be permitted for emergency services as well as pedestrian access.

Bond Street car park remains accessible via High Bridge Road. These closures are in addition to an existing set of closures northbound on Springfield Road (between Tesco Delivery/recycling centre service road and the Navigation Road junction) in place until June 30.

A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: "As part of the planning conditions for the 'Chelmer Waterside Peninsular' development, Taylor Wimpey are required to carry out highway works to improve vehicle capacity, journey times and provide formal pedestrian crossing facilities to enable the public to navigate the junction more safely.

"In preparation for these improvements at the junction, a number of utility companies will need to divert their underground services. Highway works relating to this scheme will be carried out in a number of phases, with traffic management varied according to activities being carried out to minimise inconvenience to residents, businesses and the travelling public as much as reasonably practical."
