Twenty plucky volunteers took part in the Roseberry Topping sponsored abseil on June 9, raising between them £11,000 for Marie Curie.

The abseil appealed to all age groups, from nine years old to 70-plus, and all enjoyed the adrenalin fuelled experience, expertly handled by Pinpoint Adventure.

A spokesperson for the Stokesley Marie Curie Fundraising Group said it would like to thank Stokesley Rotary Club, The Kings Head Inn, Newton under Roseberry, Robin Jessop Ltd, and Yorkshire Vehicle Hire for all their help and support.

"Also, a huge thank you to those who took part, all those who sponsored the abseilers, provided raffle prizes and helped in any way," added the spokesperson.

"Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness across the UK. Our nurses work night and day in people's homes and our hospices offer specialist care.

"We also support people emotionally, provide practical information and match them with trained volunteers."
