Ryanair passengers have been issued with an 'important' warning by the airline regarding upcoming changes in hand luggage regulations from UK airports.

The changes relate to rules for carrying liquids onboard, which are due to be phased out from June 1. The low-cost carrier, recognised for its extensive destination list, is reminding all those travelling that current liquid restrictions were initially imposed following a thwarted terrorist plot back in 2006.

However, a UK Government shift announced earlier this year will see each airport revise these rules. This means the maximum volume of liquids allowed will see an increase from 100ml to two litres.

In an email titled "important travel information", sent recently to customers, Ryanair highlighted the upcoming rule modifications: "We want to remind passengers that despite upcoming changes to the rule, the 100ml limit on liquids still applies across UK airports and will begin to be phased out starting June 1st 2024."

It was also recommended in the email that passengers should verify details relating to the revised liquids policy on their departure airport websites, as regulatory changes may differ.

The airport confirmed in a statement: "We advise you to adhere to the policy of each airport to avoid delays in security."

Also expected to change is the introduction of new screening equipment at all airports, set to be installed on varied timelines, with the absolute deadline penned in for June 2024, reports suggest.

A handful of UK airports have already started rolling out the new screening equipment. Aberdeen International Airport was the third in the UK to bring in the new equipment last month, following Teeside International and London City Airports.

These airports are the first to scrap its rules surrounding how much liquid passengers can bring in their hand luggage.
