Many Chester city centre diners have been left stunned by the closure of Boheme - just five months after the restaurant's much-anticipated opening. It also came weeks after the Bridge Street venue was recognised in the latest Michelin Guide.

Launching back in February this year, Boheme quickly made a name for itself in Chester as one of the top dining options in the city for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But yesterday, co-owner Ben Iles posted on the restaurant's Instagram page announcing its permanent closure and thanking the city for the support over the past five months.

Ben said: "Thank you to all of our wonderful staff and customers who have supported Boheme. We’ve had an amazing time and enjoyed our past five months of service. It’s been a blast and we wouldn’t have missed it for the world! There are lots of successes, beautiful memories and friendships to take from Boheme.

"The laughter, the smiles and the sunshine that’s come through these doors will never be forgotten. Thank you to our fabulous team who are the heart and soul of this creative place, we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you so much everyone. Wow it’s hard work running a restaurant. I’m knackered."

CheshireLive readers have been responding to the news via our Facebook page - and many have spoken of their shock and sadness over the announcement. There are also some who aren't too surprised that the venue is closing so soon.

Here is a selection of their comments:

Hayley Jordan: "Such a shame as the food was amazing and well-priced, but agree with others that the wine costs were far too expensive."

Lindsay Bubb: "Such a shame…this was one of the highest quality offerings in Chester."

Jackie Martin: "That’s pretty sad but for me not unexpected. Beautiful place but they priced themselves out. We recently visited and were told it was £19.50 for a glass of Malbec!!! On principle I will not pay those prices. We had another wine which was priced at £11.50! After one drink we left."

Sam Capes: "We went on Saturday and it was busy. The comments about the price is a bit unfair, a decent glass of wine is expensive in most places these days. The staff were really lovely and very attentive, I hope they find new jobs very soon."

Lucy Clarke: "Why on earth are they closing so soon, surely after spending all that money they could change some things to keep it open."

Charlotte Fletcher: "Never been here but it looked really nice surprised it closed so soon heard it was very expensive so that could be the reason…"

Sharon Miller: "I am shocked, did walk past there last week and seen security outside and the restaurant was empty. But also seen it on sunny days packed out! Hoping something similar relights. Please come to Watergate St."

Susanna Jones: "Horrendously expensive, so not surprising!"

Bettina Sigall: "What a shame"
