Sainsbury's online shopping order cancellations cause chaos

Sainsbury's were forced to alert its customers to an issue after a flurry of online shopping orders were abruptly cancelled. The supermarket giant, competing with the likes of Tesco, Asda, and Morrisons, reached out to its customer base via social media platforms.

In response to a disgruntled shopper, Sainsbury's commented: "I'm sorry for the tech issue. We're aware there is an issue and we're working to have it fixed ASAP. At this stage I wouldn't be able to confirm when your delivery will happen."

Social media was awash with complaints from Sainsbury's customers regarding their cancelled orders. One customer queried on X on Thursday, April 26: "Is there an issue with deliveries today? I am not been able to speak to anyone as your phone lines are not working either."

Sainsbury's said: "We have fixed a small technical issue which has affected some groceries online orders this morning. We have contacted these customers directly to apologise for the inconvenience."

Another customer expressed frustration, saying: "The absolute cheek of Sainsbury's completely ghosting their customers about their deliveries being cancelled today. I live in a rural area they haven't even bothered to phone, text or email me about my order being cancelled this morning," reports Birmingham Live.

And another customer expressed their frustration, saying: "Your customer service line is not working - it consistently disconnects calls. I've tried eight times this morning to find out what happened to my order."

A representative for Sainsbury's addressed the issue, stating, "A small technical issue affected some groceries online orders this morning. We have contacted these customers directly to apologise for the inconvenience."

On social media, Sainsbury's acknowledged a "tech issue" that resulted in delivery delays and issued an apology. Downdetector recorded over 500 complaints from customers experiencing problems with the service.

Back in March, Sainsbury's suffered a significant "technical issue" leading to the cancellation of numerous online deliveries. The supermarket assured they were "working hard to fix the issue" and extended apologies to those impacted.

A spokesperson said: "We can confirm that contactless payments are now back up and running in all our stores, alongside all other forms of payment. Our Groceries Online ordering system is working as normal and customers can place an order for delivery anytime from tomorrow."

"We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused by technical issues today - thank you for bearing with us."
