Sainsbury’s has recalled its vegan garlic bread after it was found to contain traces of cheese.

It has issued a recall for its FreeFrom Garlic Pizza Bread after cheese was discovered in the product.

The supermarket’s FreeFrom range offers products that are free from gluten, milk, wheat, nut, egg or soya.

The range is aimed at vegans and people with food allergies.

The garlic pizza bread should be free from gluten and milk.

However, Sainsbury’s said it was recalling all samples of the product with a use-by date of January 27.

It affects garlic pizza bread that is chilled and weighs 160g with the product code 7941806.

“We are recalling Sainsbury’s Deliciously Free From Garlic Pizza Bread with the use by date 27 January,” said Sainsbury’s.

“This is because it may contain traces of cheese.”

Customers with a milk allergy are advised not to consume the product and to return it to their nearest Sainsbury’s store for a full refund.

The supermarket apologised and said no other products have been affected.

It is trying to establish how cheese made its way into the garlic bread pizza.

“Our supplier has robust processes in place to prevent incidents like this and we’re urgently investigating what went wrong to prevent this from happening again,” said Sainsbury’s.
