'Reckless' vandals spoilt one of the most 'picturesque' views in the region after lighting fires along Saltburn promenade.

Crews from Cleveland Fire Brigade were called in the early hours of Friday morning to the iconic promenade where eight bins were ablaze. Redcar and Cleveland Council bosses say staff have cleaned up the area and put temporary wheelie bins in place.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is being urged to contact Cleveland Police.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: "Crews from Saltburn and Skelton Fire Stations were dispatched to extinguish multiple bin fires which were alight along Saltburn's iconic promenade. Firefighters used two jets to extinguish the flames in the wooden bins, which were believed to have been set deliberately.

"This reckless act of anti-social behaviour not only tied up our firefighters and prevented them from attending emergencies where lives could have been at risk, but also ruined one of the most picturesque views in the North East.

A spokesperson for Redcar and Cleveland Council said: "Eight bins were set on fire along Saltburn Prom. The area will be cleared this morning and there will be temporary wheelie bins replacements pending the full replacements.
