Sandro Tonali's comeback game revealed as Newcastle United learn Premier League schedule

Sandro Tonali will be available to play for Newcastle United once again from August 29 following the completion of his 10-month global ban.

Tonali not only saw the whole of last season wiped out with the Magpies but the Italy international was also forced to miss this summer's European Championships due to his part in an illegal betting affair in his home country. But the FA have confirmed that Tonali is free to play once again from August 29 which means his first Newcastle game in the Premier League comes a couple of days later at home to Tottenham Hotspur on August 31.

Newcastle will also have a Carabao Cup second-round game after their first two Premier League fixtures but that comes too soon for Tonali. The English FA investigated Tonali's betting involvement but opted against extending the ban.

Eddie Howe said last month: "It’s the right decision (FA’s decision over Tonali), I think the FA have arrived at the ban that isn’t extended. Sandro’s currently working hard behind the scenes, he’s trained very well. But as always, referring to this situation, we’re still supporting him and helping him as he serves his time.

"He’s been very good, very consistent. Of course I see a small fraction of his life, the time he is at the training ground. He’s a very good professional, he’s trained very well, but he’s relatively quiet, that’s just his personality. I wouldn’t necessarily see what goes on beneath the surface, I’m sure he’s had difficult moments but he’s done really well.

"I’ve seen the hunger there (to return to playing) throughout the entire time. He’s done a lot of work alone, individual work, fitness work, gym work, we’ve worked on his speed, and covered loads of aspects of his game."

Tonali has enjoyed the love and support of Newcastle fans throughout his ordeal and there is certain to be a warm welcome back planned by fans for the clash against Spurs. His last game was against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League before his ban kicked in.
