Sanitizer Donated to Chattanooga Firefighters After Price-Gouging Report Goes Viral

Several boxes of hand sanitizer and other cleaning materials were donated to firefighters in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on March 17, the city’s fire department said.

The department said the donation came after the New York Times reported on Tennessee man Matt Colvin, who had hoarded more than 17,000 bottles of hand sanitizer in order to sell them online for a profit. “A portion went to first responders,” the fire department said.

Colvin’s scheme drew backlash, and it was later reported that the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office had issued a cease-and-desist letter to Colvin and his brother as they investigated them for price-gouging.
