Scarlett Johansson means business in the Super Bowl spot for Ghost in the Shell.

The teaser shows The Major (Johansson) taking down bad guys and putting her cloaking ability to lethal use.

The lead character is also told: "They did not save your life. They stole it."

At the end of the video, The Major's true face beneath the exterior is revealed - and it's filled with wires.

Directed by Rupert Sanders, Ghost in the Shell is based on the Japanese manga of the same name.

It follows The Major - a special-ops human cyborg - who leads the elite task force Section 9, as it tries to stop and wipe out Hanka Robotics' advancements in cyber technology.

Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbaek, Chin Han and Juliette Binoche are among the stars.

The movie project has not escaped controversy, following accusations of whitewashing - as in the original manga, Johansson's character is Asian.

As controversial as it is, Mamoru Oshii - the director of the anime - did have this to say: "Scarlett Johansson playing Motoko from beginning to end has gone above and beyond my expectations for the role."

The movie actually follows the anime series Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex as opposed to the original animated film.

Ghost in the Shell is released in UK cinemas on March 31.
