Scarlett Moffatt opens up about recent health scare as she urges others to get smear tests

Scarlett Moffatt has urged women everywhere to make sure they go for smear tests, after a recent health scare made her realise just how important they are.

The I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! winner posted an Instagram video on Thursday 19 September, where she explained that she’s waiting on some test results after her latest screening “detected something” out of the ordinary.

“I went for the smear, something came back,” she recalled. “Lots of people have to go for biopsies which again I worked myself up about it, but I still went.

"It was four minutes of discomfort of something that was a little bit uncomfortable, but I went because it could save my life.

"The sooner you go for your smear, if there is anything wrong... they can help. The sooner they pick it up, it's easier to manage.”

The former Gogglebox star went on to say that she’s not fretting over her impending results just yet and that “hopefully it comes back to say that, in a year’s time, [she’ll] have to go for a smear test” again.

“Fingers crossed it'll say in three years time,” the 29-year-old joked, noting that that’s typically how often women are expected to have them done.

"But it is so important. I can’t stress this enough. Imagine if I kept leaving it and leaving it. Things can be done if it's detected so early on... please, please, please go for your smear."

Moffatt also opened up about a close friend of hers who struggles to attend cervical screenings due to a “really traumatic” incident in her past, but that she manages to overcome the fear by taking control of the situation.

“You can specify that you want a woman,” she said. “I do myself.”

Later, Moffatt returned to the platform to say how emotional she was to have received so many messages from people who were inspired to book their first tests because of her video.
