School's message to parents after 'knifeman forces lockdown'

A school has thanked parents for helping to keep pupils safe amid reports a 'knifeman' was outside the gates. The Crescent Academy in Meir is understood to have gone into lockdown as children were finishing for the day this afternoon (June 18).

Staffordshire Police are believed to have made one arrest in connection with the incident.

In a message to parents, the Pinewood Crescent school said: "We did have an incident at the end of the school day just outside the gates. Thankfully, with the swift response from Staffordshire Police and more importantly your patience as a school community, we were able to keep everyone safe.

"I believe the police have detained someone in connection with this incident. A genuine thank you to you all for understanding, caring and supporting."

StokeonTrentLive has approached both The Crescent Academy and Staffordshire Police for statements.
