Scots have been treated to a glimpse of summer weather over the last few weeks and the sunshine is here to stay over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Thousands of workers will be set to enjoy a glorious three-day weekend from Saturday 25th of May to Monday, 27.

Temperatures are set to remain high across the country this week - with rain predicted on Wednesday and Thursday across Northern and Western areas.

There will be cloudy spells until the end of the week.

According to the Met Office, those looking to soak up the sun will be in luck.

On Saturday 25, Edinburgh is predicted to enjoy highs of 17C with a cloudy start but the sun will break out later and stay until 7pm.

Glasgow will bask in temperatures of up to 20C with a mixture of cloud and sun.

Aberdeen will also enjoy warmer temperatures with highs of 14C predicted for most of the day.

According to WXCharts, there doesn't seem to be a drop of rain in sight across the bank holiday weekend - or on the bank holiday day itself.

The Met Office says: "Most likely an unsettled start to the week with period of showers in the west and perhaps longer periods of rain in the northeast, although still some settled weather in between.

"Into the new week increasingly settled conditions are more likely for most, though rain may threaten north-western areas whilst some southern or eastern areas occasionally less settled with showers more likely later in the period though there will be some sunshine between them, the best of this in south-western parts.

"Temperatures are likely to be a little above average, but some large spatial differences are likely."

Scotland could spot Northern Lights this week as solar display predicted

It's not just the bank holiday we need to talk about - Scots have been urged to look to the skies this week as the Northern Lights may be visible this week.

The Met Office Space Weather forecast has noted that while no "significant activity" is expected this weekend, there may be availability for some sightings this week. Forecasters have noted that an "enhancement to the aurora" may occur on Monday night (May 20) due to the "possible arrival of a coronal mass ejection (CME)" that left the Sun on Friday evening.
