SCOUTS are ready to party as they raise money for their new hut.

Davenham Scouts have announced the first-ever 'Party at Peckmill'.

The event will help support the construction of a new hall, which was approved by Cheshire West and Chester Council last year.

Jac Turpin, Davenham Scouts’ secretary, said: “This is the first time we’ve run an event like this and we’re really excited about it.

“The planning has been going on for months and we’re sure everyone who comes is going to have a great time.

“We’ve planned musical entertainment and loads of activities for children.

“We hope to see lots of families there from Davenham, Moulton, Bostock, Kingsmead and further afield also.”

The 1st Davenham Scouts Group was founded in 1930 but has never had its own facility.

Having previously been based at St Wilfrid’s Parish Church Hall, the group has been meeting outdoors at Peckmill Scout Wood since 2010.

They purchased the 2.4-acre site in 2019 and last August were given permission to build a two-storey hut.

Cub leader, Mike Sinfield, said at the time: “This is a fantastic achievement by Davenham Scouts.

“We are delighted by Cheshire West and Chester Council’s decision to approve our request for planning permission at Peckmill Scout Wood.”

Party at Peckmill takes place on Saturday (July 6) from 2pm to 7pm.

There are a range of games and activities planned to keep younger visitors entertained as parents enjoy live music from local artists, including some of the group’s Cubs and Scouts.

Jac added: “Our packed calendar of fundraising events is all designed to raise funds for our new scout hall.

“While we put the finishing touches to Party at Peckmill, we are also looking for local businesses who are interested in sponsoring our autumn beer festival, to take place on October 25 and 26.”

Tickets for Party at Peckmill are £5 for the entire household and can be bought in advance by emailing mike@davenhamscouts.org.uk.

Parking will be available on the field opposite Peckmill Scout Wood, with signs and volunteers directing visitors on the day.
