Sex Education’s Asa Butterfield thinks Ncuti Gatwa will "smash it" as Doctor Who

Sex Education’s Asa Butterfield has revealed that he thinks co-star Ncuti Gatwa will thrive in his role on Doctor Who.

Butterfield and Cora Kirk spoke with Digital Spy for the release of Your Christmas or Mine 2, with the pair previewing Gatwa’s upcoming stint as the Time Lord.

“I did get to see a sneak peek of the Tardis before anyone else – a picture – which was very exciting. He's going to smash it,” said Butterfield, with Kirk adding: “I love Doctor Who, I actually find it quite scary, some of the early stuff is terrifying. But I can't wait to watch it.”

Your Christmas or Mine 2 will once again follow James (Butterfield) and Hayley (Kirk) over the festive season, with the sequel depicting the pair as they get into a mix-up with another family as they go skiing in the Alps.

The follow-up features a goat in the shape of Claus, with both Butterfield and Kirk revealing that the animal proved to be rather amusing on set.

“Claus was a bit of a diva, I’m going to be honest," Butterfield said.

“He came on set and he just trotted around like it was his palace. He had his good days and his bad days – and on his bad days, he really let you know. He was funny, we had a lot of drama with Claus. By the end of the shoot he was a pro.

"We wrestled at one point – like deliberately – it wasn't like we just decided to wrestle the goat. I was trying to wrestle him into his pen and I felt bad."

Kirk added: “No animals were harmed in the making of Your Christmas or Mine 2.”

Your Christmas or Mine 2 is released on Prime Video on December 8.
