Shelf Cloud Hangs Over City in Eastern Iowa Amid Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Dark clouds gathered over parts of eastern Iowa on Friday, May 24, as the National Weather Service (NWS) warned of an approaching severe thunderstorm.

Footage posted to X by @zack_freiburger shows windy conditions as a shelf cloud fills the sky over the city of Davenport.

The NWS said a severe thunderstorm warning was in place for Davenport, as well as the Illinois cities of Moline and Rock Island, with wind gusts up to 70 mph expected.

The Iowa town of Greenfield, west of Davenport, was destroyed by an EF-4 tornado on May 21. Four people died, and numerous buildings and vehicles were demolished, according to local reports. Credit: @zack_freiburger via Storyful
