Shirley Ballas urges fans not to miss health checks amid breast cancer scare

Shirley Ballas has urged her fans to attend their mammogram appointments amid a breast cancer scare.

The Strictly Come Dancing judge revealed on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday that she recently underwent a biopsy under local anaesthetic following a routine mammogram.

"Urging all women do not miss your mammogram. I went for mine, ended up going for a second one and a biopsy, local anaesthetic biopsy done," she wrote. "Now waiting for results."

The 63-year-old admitted the procedure made her think of Strictly dancer Amy Dowden, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

She added, "@Amy_Dowden you ran through my mind the importance of not putting it off go and get tested. Plus self breast check recently."

Shirley posted the message alongside a selfie in which she lifted up her shirt to show a bandage covering her breast following the biopsy.

The Welsh dancer shared Shirley's post on her Stories and offered her support, writing, "Always here for you! Important message here all from @shirleyballas (heart emoji)."

Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year. In February, she announced that her last MRI showed "no evidence of disease". However, she explained that she wouldn't get the all-clear for five years and will need a monthly injection until that time to prevent the cancer from returning.

In the U.K., women aged between 50 and 71 are invited to attend a breast screening appointment every three years.
